Western Folklife Center
Art Direction
Western Folklife Center is a nonprofit organization that celebrates the traditions of people living in the American West. Western Folklife Center felt the visual messaging on its previous website lacked a necessary breadth of all peoples in the American West. The new design had to reflect the American West without specific focus on any one culture. Tying together elements from various people, places and artisan crafts, the new website unified myriad cultures for users.
The Wide Wide West
Western Folklife Center provided incredible photographs of ranchers, cowboys, families, animals, spacious skies and artisan crafts. Clearly, the web site had to demonstrate the rich, vibrant heritage of Western Folklife through a culmination of these photographs. The visual identity for WFC was reversed against a series of different images that tell a story about Western folklife far better than any catchy tagline. A color palette of warm earth tones balances the white background of the website, and the texture from a leather saddle was the perfect touch of depth for content and images.
